In the realm of opera, he is much in demand as a repetiteur and coach. He has worked for such institutions as the Middlebury German for Singers Program, the University of Miami Festival in Salzburg, the Washington National Opera's Family Opera and Opera Institute, the voice department of Towson University, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Brevard Music Center. In 2008 he served as the assistant to Matthias Kuntzsch at BASOTI in San Francisco where he also conducted opera scenes. He is currently the music director for the Hub Opera Ensemble in Hagerstown, MD.
He receieved his BM summa cum laude at Catholic University where studied piano and composition. He received a teaching assistantship at the University of Maryland (DMA, MM) where he performed in numerous concerts and recitals as a vocal accompanist, chamber musician, continuo artist, and orchestral pianist. He spent three years as a répétiteur with the Maryland Opera Studio, assisting with the preparation and performance of operas and opera scenes.
In addition to his love of performance, he is also an inquisitive researcher. He enjoys searching out unusual and interesting music to enrich the standard recital repertoire. His particular interest is in the music of Herbert Howells (1892-1983, on whom Dr. Crowne did his dissertation), British and French art song of the early 20th century, and impressionist music.
Among his many wonderful collaborations, he has performed with such artists as Stacey Mastrian, Andrea Hill, Tony Boutté, Roosevelt Credit, and others. He has participated or served as pianist for the masterclasses for Martin Katz, Steven Blier, Liz Daniels, Delores Ziegler, and Gran Wilson. He has worked with conductors such as Matthias Kuntzsch, Christoph Hagel, Asher Fisch, Ken Slowick, and Ken Merrill. His teachers include Rita Sloan, John Greer, James Litzelman, and Wendy Dengler. Dr. Crowne is married and resides in Frederick, MD.
