May stories in review

In the Gettysburg College community, Gettysburgians are passionate about not only their own work but also others’ great work in the world. With its network of more than 30,000 alumni at the core, the lifelong connections to this College and to each other live on in the stories we tell and the support we provide to one another in lifting up those stories.

In May, our community took to social media to engage with and reflect on these stories, including celebrating the Class of 2022 and Gettysburg’s success on and off the field:

Finding joy in the journey: Class of 2022 embarks on a ‘brighter tomorrow’ at Commencement

On May 14, the rain didn’t stop the Class of 2022 from celebrating their graduation during the College’s 187th Commencement. As President Bob Iuliano said, they leave the College “not only as Gettysburg graduates, but as leaders and engaged citizens prepared to change the world.”

“I hope you never forget that you always had everything within you to Do Great Work, and you always will,” said Phoebe Doscher ’22. “We are boundless, Class of 2022. I see it, I believe it, and I can’t wait to see what we will do next.”

“Your diploma bears a name—Gettysburg—that is central to the American story and represents what is best about the American spirit. That should make you feel proud and humbled. As a Gettysburg graduate, you are now ready to Do Great Work for your community, your country, and your world.”

Prior to the main Commencement exercises, both the men’s and women’s lacrosse seniors were recognized in a Special Commencement Ceremony on May 12. Read the recap.

How Britney Brunache ’22 and Tom Cassara ’23 learned to thrive at Gettysburg

Finding Your Home at Gettysburg College

Both Britney Brunache ’22 and Tom Cassara ’23 built a support system at Gettysburg College through their various activities and mentorships across campus. They credit their growth to the Gettysburg community.

“Gettysburg is a community of people who thrive together,” Brunache said. “It doesn't matter if you're an athlete, a mathematician, or the editor of a newspaper. You can find something for yourself.”
