Alex Wiltz, Associate Dean of College Life and Executive Director of Campus Safety at Gettysburg College, is passionate about working with our students, helping them to navigate challenges and celebrating their successes.
“I love working with our students. I enjoy watching them grow, supporting them through the more difficult times of college, and then seeing them walk across the stage at Commencement to go out and do great things,” shared Alex Wiltz, Associate Dean of College Life and Executive Director of Campus Safety at Gettysburg College.
Originally from Sabetha, Kansas, Wiltz has worked for various campus safety and police departments across the country. He joined the Gettysburg community in 2021 to continue pursuing his passion of working with students.
Wiltz’s role entails overseeing Campus Safety operations and broader student-centered initiatives. He collaborates closely with students, faculty, and staff to develop policies, lead crisis response efforts, and create educational programming that empowers students to make informed decisions about their safety.
With a bachelor’s in sociology, a master’s in counseling, and a doctorate in education, Wiltz leverages his diverse education to ensure that campus safety extends beyond enforcement to include advocacy, mentorship, and proactive community engagement.

Some of Wiltz’s favorite memories at Gettysburg College have stemmed from our annual First-Year Walk tradition during New Student Orientation. “A lot of effort goes into planning and executing the event, but the culmination of the tradition when we get to the battlefield and see the impact of this type of event is always worth it,” he explained. “It’s also one of the only times that we have all of our campus safety staff together. Almost every officer does the walk, and to see them interact with students is incredibly rewarding to me.”
Closely partnering with Gettysburgians throughout the community, Wiltz truly values the College’s emphasis on campus-wide safety and support.
“The level of care at Gettysburg is unparalleled,” he shared. “Whether it’s a housekeeper who calls our office concerned about a student or a dining hall employee who notices something off, everybody has the same mission of supporting our students and empowering them to succeed. This is why I continue to love my job every day.”
