What course/internship experience during your global study semester allowed you to learn something new and exciting?
During my internship at GreenMates, I learned so many technical marketing skills. This is very beneficial for me as I plan on pursuing a careeer in marketing!
How have your global studies related to one of the 7 Enduring Skills?
Living in another country/continent for 4 months means constant change and adaptability. Studying abroad in Berlin threw me into situations where I had no choice but to adapt. Nothing ever went exactly as planned—whether it was figuring out the U-Bahn, dealing with store closures on Sundays (which I always forgot about), or realizing that small talk isn’t really a thing in Germany. At first, it was frustrating, but over time, I learned to just roll with it. Academically, things were different, too. I had to adjust to a completely new school with the majority of students that I didn't know. Outside of class, I had to navigate making new friends in a completely unfamiliar environment, which meant putting myself out there in ways that felt uncomfortable at first. Traveling on weekends added another layer of unpredictability. Delayed trains, last-minute plan changes, and language barriers became the norm. But instead of stressing over every little thing, I learned to problem-solve on the fly and trust that things would work out. By the time I left, I was way more comfortable with uncertainty—whether that meant getting lost in a new city or figuring out what’s next in life. Berlin didn’t just show me a new culture; it changed the way I handle challenges, and that’s something I’ll carry with me wherever I go.
