What course/internship experience during your global study semester allowed you to learn something new and exciting?

I took Business Perfume in which I learned about the creation, history, and marketing of perfume from an individual who owns her own perfume business! This consisted of field trips to perfumeries, museums, and across town learning about the different (and complex) issues surrounding the perfume business.

How have your global studies related to one of the 7 Enduring Skills?

The biggest skill that my global studies experience helped me learn was adaptability. Going abroad you’re dealing with so many different and new experiences and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone in a lot of ways, with a new language, living in a strangers home, meeting new people. It can be intimidating at first but each of these experiences have helped me learn to be more adaptable to new situations that I encounter and to be able to take a step back and go with the flow when something doesn’t work out or when I’m in a new situation. Living with a host family was the most prominent experience that helped with adaptability, especially after living on my own at college for a good time now. It took a lot of adapting to the family’s expectations and rules and a lot of flexibility to be open to learning about living in different culture.
