What course/internship experience during your global study semester allowed you to learn something new and exciting?
I took Food, Nutrition, and Culture while abroad which was the most unique class I have taken in college. This course focused on the history of food and culture within Germany while also exploring Berlin's landscape and future. This was an eye opening course to visualize the progressiveness of sustainability in European cities in ways such as vertical farming, recycling, and repurposing land.

How have your global studies related to one of the 7 Enduring Skills?
When I arrived in Berlin for my study abroad program, I was captivated by the city’s vibrant energy. Berlin quickly became a place of discover and a crash course in adaptability. Navigating life in a city with a language I barely knew and customs that challenged my assumptions was, overwhelming. By leaning into the challenges, I gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be adaptable.

Outside the classroom, Berlin itself became a living lesson in adaptability. The city’s complex public transportation system was an initial hurdle, but it pushed me to become more resourceful and patient. When my original plans—whether for travel, dining, or sightseeing—didn’t pan out, I discovered hidden gems like neighborhood markets, community art spaces, and quiet spots along the Spree River. Each unexpected twist reminded me that being adaptable often leads to richer experiences.

Living in Berlin also challenged me to confront discomfort head-on. From navigating bureaucratic systems in German to engaging with locals in conversations about topics like identity and sustainability, I learned how to stay open and flexible in unfamiliar situations. These moments reshaped my mindset, teaching me to view change not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to grow.

My time in Berlin gave me more than academic knowledge, it strengthened my adaptability in ways I never imagined. Whether I’m tackling professional challenges or personal transitions, I now carry the lessons learned in Berlin with me: the confidence to embrace uncertainty, the curiosity to explore new perspectives, and the resilience to thrive in a constantly changing world.
