Favorite experience:

Getting to explore every random nook and cranny of the city Berlin. It's such a massive place that it's impossible to see everything in just 4 months but sometimes me and my friends would just take the urban to a random part of the city and just explore whatever was located there. Spontaneous days like this were always the most fun.

What course/internship experience during your global study semester allowed you to learn something new and exciting?

My favorite course I took abroad was building sustainable cities! As an ES major it was invaluable for me to get to learn about ES topics from a new cultural perspective, and as my concentration is sustainability this course was perfect for me and something I wouldn't have gotten to experience If I hadn't gone abroad. Something that made the course so special, along with most of the courses I took, was the fieldtrips! We would have 1 to 2 fieldtrips out into the city ever week to get hands on experience with the topics we were learning about.

How have your global studies related to one of the 7 Enduring Skills?

Study Abroad is one of those experiences that teaches you a lesson in all steps of your time in your program. Not just in classes, but ordering a coffee, and traveling on new modes of transportation all bring you experiences that impact you forever. There would be times that navigating the tricky bus and urban routes through Berlins city was difficult, especially in a group. One person would be looking at one set of directions, another looking at a different one. It could lead to us getting lost in an instant. Having to deal with these situations didn't just teach me 1 of the & enduring skills but many. It taught me how to problem solve when dealing with a very stressful time sensitive issue. It taught me how to balance both leadership and teamwork, taking the lead when I need to, and also assisting others in figuring directions out when the time is appropriate. It's amazing how small lessons like this stick with you, even almost a year after being back in my home country.
