Class Year: 2025
Major/Minor: Political Science & Studio Art
Program: Kansai Gaidai, Osaka, Japan
Identities I can speak to students about:
LGBTQIA+; First generation; Student of color; Mental health; Women abroad
Program specific experiences I can speak about:
Took courses primarily in a language other than English
Favorite experience:
I enjoyed being in Osaka, because it was relatively close to everything. I thought an hour train ride was not something that was hard to do, I would do homework or read which was a nice pass time.
What course/internship experience during your global study semester allowed you to learn something new and exciting?
I took a political science course called Tyrants dictators and strong men. This course was interesting to take because I was able to have actual conversations about politics with other students. Something that is often hard to do in the states. This class also further pushed me to get to learn about other peoples political systems which I found pretty interesting.
How have your global studies related to one of the 7 Enduring Skills?
As a first gen student, I did not see going abroad as one of my plans in college. Just going away to a college far from home was the biggest change I had done. Going to Kansai Gaidiai University for my abroad experience changed my person as a whole. I was able to adapt fairly quickly because of how scared I was. I had mentally prepared myself if I got homesick and all. Adapting in Japan was relatively easy in my experience because I got out of my comfort zone to create friends that allowed it to feel like home.
