Retirement Eligibility & Groups
As a retiree from Gettysburg College, you fall into one of the following groups:
- Group 1 Retirees: Individuals who were at least 60 years old with 15 years of service by August 31, 1991. This group is now fully retired.
- Group 2 Retirees: Those who were hired before January 1, 1992 but didn’t meet the eligibility criteria for Group 1.
- Group 3 Retirees: Retirees who were hired on or after January 1, 1992.

Retirement Healthcare Savings Plan (RHSP)
As a current retiree, you may already be benefiting from Gettysburg College’s Retirement Healthcare Savings Plan, designed to help manage healthcare costs in retirement. Here’s how it continues to serve you:
- Tax-Free Reimbursements: You can use the savings in your RHSP for qualified medical expenses tax-free. This includes doctor visits, prescriptions, hospital stays, and more.
- Employer Contributions: Gettysburg College has made tax-free contributions to your RHSP to help you manage healthcare costs in retirement.
- Investment Earnings: Any earnings in your RHSP grow tax-free as long as you use them for qualified medical expenses.

Health Insurance in Retirement (Via Benefits)
For retirees, Via Benefits is your partner in navigating the complexities of Medicare and supplemental insurance. Here’s what you can expect:
- Medicare Guidance: Via Benefits is able to help you find the right Medicare coverage, including Medicare Advantage, Medigap (Supplemental), and Part D (prescription drug coverage).
- Dental & Vision: They also offer options for dental, vision, and even coverage for hearing aids and home care insurance.

Retirees Under 65:
If you're under the age of 65 and retired, you still have options for coverage. Gettysburg College provides group medical insurance to eligible retirees under 65. If you’re in Group 2 or Group 3 and under 65, please reach out to the Human Resources Office for more information on your options.

Stay on top of your financial planning, even in retirement. Gettysburg College continues its partnership with TIAA to provide personalized financial consultations. Whether you need advice on your retirement income, investment strategies, or simply want a check-in on your financial goals:
