Meet the Chaplain

Elizabeth Eckman

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Eckman and I am so excited to be serving as the Interim Chaplain for Religious and Spiritual Life at Gettysburg College. I look forward to meeting you both online and in person (even if it’s distanced!) to engage and explore issues that are meaningful to you about life, faith, doubt, God, justice, all of it! The world is throwing so many challenges at us right now and it is important to stay in touch with what's bubbling up at the intersection of our lives and spirituality.

I am a Pennsylvania girl through and through! I grew up in Harrisburg, and all through high school I played field hockey, track, musicals, choir (alto), band (saxophone). I have my B.A in Telecommunications from Penn State University and began a career at CBS21 News where I was a News Director/Production Assistant. It was my work with the ELCA National Youth Gathering and engaging with Young Adults that I felt a call to ministry. So I decided to jump into a four year Masters program and move to the ridge having never taken a religion course in my life! It is on Seminary Ridge where I found a deep love for the book of Psalms, womanist & liberation theology as well as preaching and teaching. I graduated with my Master of Divinity degree from United Lutheran Seminary in May 2020.

I recently got married in August 2020 to Jay Eckman who is a Lutheran Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Gettysburg and we have spent all of our time together during COVID. I love to sing, bike, hike, kayak, sail, cook and nap. I love making my own pasta from scratch and Netflix all the time. I enjoy traveling and singing with my Alumni choir from Penn State called Essence of Joy Alumni Singers. I frequently dance around in my kitchen and make fun music videos.

My office is upstairs in the Center for Religious & Spiritual life at 75 W. Stevens St. Please stop by and say hello both in person and online!
