Source and Resource: Contemporary Artists Engage with History

Source and Resource: Contemporary Artists Engage with History

In this exhibition, works by contemporary artists will be paired with historical images that inspired their production. Pulled primarily from the Gettysburg College Art Collection with the addition of some significant loans, these pairings question how artists working in the 20th and 21st centuries interpret and reconfigure historical imagery to raise meaningful questions around shifting perceptions of race, gender and identity. Artists in the exhibition include Kara Walker, Andy Warhol, Carl Beam, Carrie Mae Weems, and Michael Scoggins, among others.
