Juror Kate Stewart selects outstanding work by students enrolled in studio art classes during the 2011-12 academic year. Stewart works in a variety of media including painting, installation and collage. She often uses disasters, explosions and post-apocalyptic environments as imagery to describe the exhilaration and fragility of life. Stewart received an MFA in painting from The University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Dickinson College. Her recent exhibition venues include The Painting Center (New York, NY), Oblong Gallery (London, U.K.), Mahan Gallery (Columbus, OH), Whitespace Gallery (Atlanta, GA), Pageant Soloveev Gallery (Philadelphia, PA) and P.S. 122 (New York, NY). In 2008, Stewart was a finalist in painting for the PEW Grant for Artists. She currently is Assistant Professor of Art at West Chester University.
