Maren Hassinger: Lives

Exhibition details

The exhibition of Maren Hassinger's sculptures, installations, and films, an event that coincides with the Central Pennsylvania Consortium Africana Studies Conference on Public Policy in the African Diaspora, provides a complicated and richly nuanced perspective on issues of race, gender, identity, and social policies. Keenly aware of how the designation of race and gender can be seen as the primary markers of identity, Hassinger states, "The change I want in the world is King's 'Dream.' I want to communicate my presence as a human being and the poignancy of that presence not the things that have happened because of my blackness and femininity."
