Position Summary:
The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College invites applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty in Applied Flute and Resident Artist Member of the Sunderman Wind Quintet beginning August 2021. The successful candidate will teach weekly studio lessons (13 lessons per semester plus participation in the end-of-semester juries and assessments) and periodic studio classes to undergraduate students majoring or minoring in music, as well as to students majoring in other disciplines. Opportunities may arise to teach other courses, collaborate with ensemble directors, and occasionally lead sectionals. Duties as resident artist include performing with the Sunderman Wind Quintet on and off-campus during the academic year, participating in Conservatory recruitment initiatives and audition days, maintaining a weekly rehearsal presence on campus, and carrying the name of Gettysburg College in publicity for performances in other venues.
Weekly teaching and rehearsal commitment for the 2021-2022 academic year is estimated to be 6-8 weekly contact hours during each 14-week semester; actual hours will depend on enrollment. Part-time faculty are not assigned governance responsibilities, scholarship, supervision of independent studies, or advising duties, except for those which occur as part of course instruction.
Qualifications:
Earned master’s degree or equivalent professional experience required; demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college level, an understanding of the ideals and goals of an undergraduate liberal arts education, and demonstrated success as a collaborative performer required. Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated potential to be effective in Conservatory recruitment and outreach preferred.
