Sam Anderson (he/him/his) brings his passion for civic engagement and transformative leadership models to the Garthwait Leadership Center and the Eisenhower Institute as Assistant Director for Leadership Development. He strives to support students’ development through the creation of capacity-building co-curricular experiences, mentorship, and by fostering an equitable and inclusive environment. Sam believes that by emphasizing leadership for change and civic engagement in tandem with each other, leadership becomes a transformative tool and empowers students as change agents and active participants in democracy.

Before joining the Gettysburg College Community in 2023, Sam graduated from the University of Michigan with his master's degree in higher education from the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. Sam earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. Sam is actively involved with the Difficult Dialogues National Resource Center, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing innovative dialogic practices to contribute to transformative change among higher education institutions and their partners.
