The Ann McIlhenny Harward Interdisciplinary Program for Culture and Music

Mission:

The Harward Program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between music, culture, and diverse academic disciplines. It champions a holistic liberal arts approach, leveraging the interplay of the humanities, the arts, and humanistic sciences. Annual themes guide a curated series of lectures, performances, workshops, and community-engagement projects that serve the entire community and connect Gettysburg College with the broader region.

About the Program:

Established in 2023 through gifts from the Endeavor Foundation, the program honors the life and legacy of Ann McIlhenny Harward—an accomplished musician, advocate for interdisciplinary learning, and community leader. Inspired by the vision of Donald W. Harward, the program ensures that music and culture remain central to the intellectual and creative life of Gettysburg College.

Ann McIlhenny Harward (1941–2019) was a dedicated musician, educator, and community leader whose life embodied service, curiosity, and the transformative power of the arts. Her legacy continues at Gettysburg College through this program’s commitment to learning across disciplines and fostering meaningful cultural experiences.
