The fund was established in 1973 by the classmates of A. Bruce Denny (1951-1973) as a memorial to their late friend.
More Information
Arthur Bruce Denny, Class of 1973, was a Sociology major, Student Senate president, and member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He died tragically at the beginning of his final semester. “Bruce’s personality—his enthusiasm, his wit, his hard work and ideas—provided a mirror for each of us to see ourselves and size up our own goals and intentions,” recalled J. Ray Scott, Denny’s Student Senate Vice-President.

About the Donor
Laura McLean Stoever (1849-1926) established the fund in 1925 in memory of her husband, Gettysburg College graduate William C. Stoever (1850-1924).
More Information
William Casper Stoever was born in Gettysburg to Martin L. Stoever, Pennsylvania College Professor of History, and Elizabeth McConaughey. He graduated from the college in 1868 and became an eminent attorney. Laura and William married in 1874. Living most of their lives in Philadelphia, they never lost their ties to William’s alma mater.

The Rev. Jeremiah Zimmerman (1848-1937) established the fund in 1931 in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth (1856-1930).
More Information
Zimmerman graduated from Pennsylvania (later Gettysburg) College in 1873 and was ordained as a pastor, serving for most of his life in Syracuse, New York. A trustee of the college from 1917 until his death, Zimmerman contributed many rare art works and approximately 75,000 books to the Gettysburg College library. Following the death of his wife, the former Sophia Elizabeth Cook Amos, he established this endowment in her memory.
