Solangel Hernández López ’26 is dedicated to building connections and creating opportunities. Through her academics, involvement with the Center for Public Service, and support from the Gettysburg College alumni network, she is making a positive impact and preparing for a bright future.
Solangel Hernández López ’26 is a double major in Business, Organizations, and Management (BOM) and Spanish/Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies (LACLS). Leveraging her academics and career-ready experiences at Gettysburg College, she is preparing for a future in business with Latin American communities.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Hernández moved to the Bronx in high school. The transition was challenging, but she quickly embraced the opportunity to grow and find her place. At Gettysburg, she has continued to push herself, taking on new opportunities while fostering relationships that support her journey.
“My favorite part of Gettysburg is the community. I have met so many great people who are always willing to help me out,” she explained. “I am grateful for people like Verónica Cavillo, my Spanish advisor, and Brenda Reyes-Lua, our faculty advisor for The Butterfly Coalition. They have offered me a lot of guidance, especially as a first-generation student.”
One of Hernández’s most impactful experiences at Gettysburg has been working with the Center for Public Service (CPS), where she has found purpose in serving others. As a program coordinator for Campus Kitchen, she leads a team of student volunteers each week to prepare meals for families in need. She also volunteers with the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, assisting adults in improving their language proficiency. “I love seeing the direct impact of my work on our community,” she shared. “The gratitude I receive and the connections I make are so rewarding.”

Beyond CPS, Hernández is exploring career paths through Gettysburg’s extensive alumni network. Over winter break, she joined the Wall Street Career Trek, where she connected with Gettysburg alumni at top firms like Goldman Sachs and Piper Sandler.
“I’m not a finance person, but I’m interested in the management side of business,” she said. “It was amazing to hear alumni speak on the many opportunities that we may be able to have. I realized how powerful the Gettysburg alumni network is and how important it is to stay connected.”
