Inclusion and Belonging Staffing Update - July 22

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that Shantanique Johnson, Associate Director of Multicultural Engagement, has been promoted to Director of Multicultural Engagement effective August 1.

Since joining the Gettysburg College community in 2018, Shantanique has served as the Assistant Director and, most recently, Associate Director for Multicultural Engagement, Interim Director for LGBTQIA+ Life, and as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Psychology Department as part of her doctoral program. Her accomplishments include the creation of Hera's Closet (offering gender inclusive clothing for students), the Mosaic Cupboard and Mosaic Minds program (providing moderate to low-income students with necessities and educational materials), and the development of a first generation student support and mentorship program.

Shantanique's experience and educational background in counseling and college student personnel, along with her collaborative, inclusive, strategic, student-center approach, position her well to serve as Gettysburg's next Director of Multicultural Engagement. In Shantanique's words, she is "committed to providing empowering experiences through collaboration building and teaching self-advocacy." Please join us in congratulating Shantanique Johnson on her new role.

As a result of this promotion, which is in accordance with the College's promotion policy, we will be launching a search for an Assistant Director of Multicultural Engagement to complete the OME team. Please keep an eye on the Digest for opportunities to be involved in this search.

Sincerely,

Dean Garcia
