Crowdfunding

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding at Gettysburg College creates a platform for special, often one-time fundraising initiatives that benefit our students and faculty. Ideal crowdfunding projects are typically in the range of $10,000 to $20,000 and for a short time period (maximum of 30 days). Like other development activities at the College, the projects must align with our mission and receive appropriate approval.

It is short-term fundraising, designed to engage new donors by highlighting a special interest or specific campus group.

Advantages of crowdfunding

  • Fund special situations and unexpected needs in a timely manner.
  • Expand support and increase awareness of your project and cause.
  • Show your project’s momentum in real-time, inspiring others to participate.
  • Receive 100% of all donations to your project, whether or not it reaches its goal.

How do I get started?

Careful planning is critical and therefore, approved project applications must be submitted a semester in advance. In order to ensure that crowdfunding is not overused, only 2-3 projects will launch per semester. Complete the Crowdfunding Application & Agreement and submit it to Katie Weigle in College Grants. She can be contacted for any questions during the application process (kweigle@gettysburg.edu).

Tips and tricks

Showing YOUR passion and excitement for the project is the number one indicator of success. Staying engaged throughout the process and with the donors gives them the feeling of inclusion in your excitement. This is also a great way to maximize your personal network to highlight the great work of your project team and the College’s support of your passion. For an in depth understanding of how the entire process works and to maximize success, review the Responsibilities & Best Practices before submitting your application.

Our team is excited to collaborate with you from beginning to end in order to help see your project succeed!
