Gettysburg College values a diverse workforce and is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment through non-discriminatory, open, and equitable recruitment, hiring, and employment practices. These practices include guidelines set forth in the College’s Guide to Effective Recruiting Practices for Administrative and Support Staff Positions as well as the College’s Promotion Guidelines for Administrative and Support Staff Positions.
The recruiting practices guide generally requires that a search be undertaken to fill an open administrative or support staff position. However, in certain circumstances it may be necessary or beneficial to waive the recruitment process and place an existing employee into an open position without undertaking a search. The recruitment guide outlines the situations in which a search may be waived.
In addition, the College also values and will prioritize the placement of existing, interested employees to open positions for which they are qualified, to the extent possible. Especially at this time of transition, the College must balance its commitment to creating a more diverse workplace with its commitment to continue to provide opportunities for its existing employees, especially those that may be impacted by departmental reorganizations or restructurings.
