Dear Campus Community,
Following a competitive national search, I am pleased to announce Gettysburg College alumnus Troy Dell ’95 as our new Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Troy returns to Gettysburg after an impressive 18-year tenure as Director of Athletics at Frostburg State University, where he oversaw several historic initiatives, including the institution’s transition from NCAA Division III to Division II. In his role, he had oversight of 25 varsity sports, intramural and club sports, and an Activities for Life program that delivered more than 20 community fitness and wellness programs.
Through his leadership, Troy spearheaded efforts that increased the average cumulative GPA of Frostburg student-athletes, added men’s lacrosse as a varsity sport in 2009, and established Frostburg as one of the top strength and conditioning programs in all of Division III—and ultimately Division II.
Troy previously served as Assistant Director of Athletics at Gettysburg from 2002 to 2007, while also serving as Head Wrestling Coach from 1997 to 2007. A standout wrestler at Gettysburg, Troy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. He earned a Master of Science in exercise science and physical education, with an emphasis in administration, from McDaniel College.
Troy’s ambitious vision aligns with Gettysburg’s aspirations to provide a championship-level experience, and he is widely recognized throughout the NCAA for his accomplishments in strategic planning, facility improvement, fundraising, and student-athlete success. His colleagues describe him as a dedicated and emotionally intelligent leader who is deeply committed to the success of student-athletes both inside and outside the classroom.
Troy will officially begin his new role in mid-August. I am confident he will be an outstanding leader within our athletic program and across our campus community. Please join me in welcoming Troy back to Gettysburg College!
Sincerely,
Carey Thompson
Vice President for Enrollment and Educational Services
