New Zealand tragedy – March 15, 2019

Dear members of the Gettysburg College community,

By now I am sure you have all heard about the horrendous tragedy that occurred in New Zealand yesterday. As they gathered for prayer at the Al Noor and Linwood Mosques, 49 Muslims were brutally murdered and many others wounded. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn with the Muslim community and with the people of New Zealand.

This act of terror is truly a crime against all of us. As we return from spring break, I encourage each of you to reach out to the Muslim members of the Gettysburg College community to express your personal support.

As members of the Gettysburg College family, let us stand with our Muslim sisters and brothers and dedicate ourselves to advancing peace, understanding, and love in our world.

Sincerely,

Janet Morgan Riggs ’77
President
