Dear Seniors,
I am delighted to announce that Gettysburg College alumna and Hall of Fame coach Carol Daly Cantele ’83, P’15 will address the Class of 2025 at our 190th Commencement Ceremony on May 17.
For more than three decades, Coach Cantele has embodied the values of leadership, perseverance, and service—both on and off the field. As one of the most decorated coaches in collegiate lacrosse history, she has inspired generations of student-athletes to push beyond their limits, to lead with integrity, and to embrace the challenges that shape their personal and professional journeys. Her mentorship has left a lasting impression, not only on her lacrosse teams, but on the countless Gettysburgians who have had the privilege to learn from her throughout her distinguished career.
A member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and Gettysburg College’s Hall of Athletic Honor, Coach Cantele guided the Orange and Blue to 446 victories, 13 Centennial Conference titles, and three NCAA Division III championships before her retirement in 2022.
As a student-athlete at Gettysburg, she played a key role in the College’s first-ever team national championship in field hockey in 1980, and she helped to lead the women’s lacrosse team to its first national playoff appearance the following spring.
Yet, beyond her many accolades, what truly sets Coach Cantele apart is how she uplifts everyone around her. She is a mentor, a motivator, and a champion for Gettysburg College students, instilling in them the confidence to embrace new opportunities and to pursue their goals with courage and tenacity. Her legacy is measured not only in the trophies she’s raised, but in the many lives she’s touched through her wisdom, dedication, and kindness.
Coach Cantele is an inspiring role model who has lived a life of consequence in service to others and the greater good. On behalf of our entire Gettysburg College community, especially all of you—members of our extraordinary Class of 2025—I am deeply honored to welcome Coach Cantele back to campus for this year’s Commencement Ceremony.
