Dear Colleagues,
As we approach the end of the year, I want to express in a tangible way my deep appreciation for everything you all have done this semester. The students have had perhaps their best semester since the pandemic. Beyond that, and as I said at the recent employee meeting, we've made important progress in addressing some of the budgetary issues before us. We still have significant work ahead, but I very much hope that the spirit and commitment on display this fall—in service of our students and the College as a whole—offer you the same sense of encouragement that it offers me.
The College wants to recognize this extraordinary effort with the gift of time. We will extend the winter recess by an additional week. The College will be closed from December 23 through January 7.
These four additional days will be considered floating holidays (coded with FH on timesheets). Employees who work in offices and departments that do not have the flexibility to take off January 2 - 7 will have as many as four floating holidays to use before May 31, 2024.
Again, my hearty thanks for your commitment to our shared mission and your work to strengthen Gettysburg College for its third century. I hope the extended winter recess will give you a chance to enjoy time with family and friends, and to get reenergized for the important work ahead.
