Gettysburg College to add three new women’s varsity sports

March 3, 2026

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that Gettysburg College will introduce three new varsity sports over the next two academic years: women’s wrestling, women’s acrobatics and tumbling, and women’s flag football.

Women’s wrestling will launch in Fall 2026 as Gettysburg’s 25th varsity sport. Women’s acrobatics and tumbling and flag football will follow in the 2027-2028 academic year as our 26th and 27th programs, respectively. These are the first varsity sports our Athletics program has added since women’s golf debuted in 2000-2001.

Division III athletics are a powerful complement to the transformational education we provide our students, and taken together ready our students for consequential professional and personal lives. As we continue to position Gettysburg College for an extraordinary third century, this is the right moment to broaden our intercollegiate offerings. These additions represent a meaningful commitment to our Athletics program and to attracting the most driven competitors—both in and out of the classroom—to our campus community.

I would like to extend a special thanks to Rob Schwartz ’92, Vice President for Enrollment and Educational Services; Troy Dell ’95, Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation; and our Board of Trustees for their support and commitment to this expansion.

An announcement of Gettysburg’s first women’s wrestling head coach will be forthcoming, and a national search for our inaugural coaches in women’s flag football and acrobatics and tumbling will begin this spring. If you are a current student interested in competing in one of our new women’s sports, please complete the recruiting questionnaire:

I look forward to cheering on our three new teams and celebrating the dedication, teamwork, and championship spirit our student-athletes will bring to the sports they love!

Sincerely,

Bob Iuliano
President
