Celebrating a great Gettysburg team

President Iuliano congratulates the women's lacrosse team, their coaches, and athletic staff.

May 30, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

I would like to congratulate our women’s lacrosse team on their historic run in the NCAA Division III Tournament, all the way to the semifinals. This is an extraordinary group of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff. I am extremely proud of what this team has accomplished, but I’m even prouder in how they accomplished it—with great character, enthusiasm, grit, and above all, love for one another and the game. They are an inspiration to us all!

With the completion of such a remarkable season, there are many Gettysburgians to acknowledge and to thank. First and foremost, I want to extend a hearty congratulations to our student-athletes, particularly this special group of seniors. They exemplified the values of Gettysburg College, both on and off the field, and served as great ambassadors for the education we provide. THANK YOU!

I would also like to thank our students’ parents, families, and classmates, as well as our faculty, staff, and alumni, who have supported our women’s lacrosse team every step of the way. Belief is a powerful thing. It can bring out the very best in us. Thank you for your belief in this team to Do Great Work.

I likewise want to extend my gratitude to our women’s lacrosse alumni, our athletic trainers, and our athletic staff, specifically Kelly Jones, who will be retiring after 35 years of service to the Orange and Blue. Each of you has provided your own brick to the foundation of this celebrated program—and you’ve done so through your dedication, your kindness, and your teamwork. It is truly admirable.

And lastly, I want to express my deepest thanks to Coach Carol Cantele ’83, P’15, and Coach Barb Jordan for their inspiring leadership. The two of you are legendary coaches not only at Gettysburg College and in Division III women’s lacrosse, but across the entirety of intercollegiate athletics. Your legacy will live on in this 2021-22 team and in the generations of student-athletes you have coached and mentored throughout your iconic careers. Thank you for your immeasurable contributions to our community, to women’s athletics, and to the sport.

Please join me in celebrating this truly great Gettysburg team! We are all so proud of you!

With great pride,

Bob Iuliano
President
