Historic weekend for Gettysburg College

September 26, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

This past Friday and Saturday, we hosted 200 dedicated alumni, donors, and friends for our Summit on the Future. The two-day event featured presentations, panel discussions, and exploratory sessions, all with a special focus on our vision for the future—specifically, how we will bring our Gettysburg Approach and new Strategic Direction to life and how this engaged group of Gettysburgians can support our highest aspirations and get involved.

The Summit culminated with a truly historic announcement—one that serves as an emphatic endorsement of the College’s vision and our community’s ability to rally together to realize such an ambitious plan in support of our students.

Today, I am honored and humbled to share that Daria Lo Presti Wallach ’76 has made a commitment of $10 million to Gettysburg College. This is the largest commitment by any living donor in our College’s 191-year history. It serves as a testament to the important work that we are undertaking together. I’d encourage you to read more about her commitment and to please join me in expressing our deepest thanks to Daria.

The Summit was an extraordinary effort made possible by an extraordinary team of colleagues! I want to thank the members of our Summit on the Future Planning Committee for their thoughtful planning, spirited collaboration, and execution of a weekend that has truly inspired and energized a key constituency for the College’s success. From students and alumni, to faculty and program directors, to dining and facilities staff, so many talented Gettysburgians had a hand in showcasing the great work we do here—and the great work we are striving to do in the future. THANK YOU!

At our closing event on Saturday evening, Lauren Wise Bright ’90, the Chair of our Board of Trustees, offered these poignant words, “Our College can achieve big things when we each believe in the power of us.” Together, we promise every student A Consequential Education—and it will require the best of all of us to deliver on this promise. I look forward to partnering with you in the weeks, months, and years ahead to ensure every Gettysburg student graduates with the knowledge and enduring skills necessary to lead their own fulfilling and contributive life.

I believe in the power of us. Again, thank you for a truly extraordinary Gettysburg weekend!

With gratitude,

Bob Iuliano
