Celebrating a remarkable team

May 28, 2023

Dear Campus Community,

I would like to congratulate our women’s lacrosse team on their unforgettable season. The team made a historic run in the NCAA Division III Tournament to the championship game. When watching this team compete, it is evident why they were so successful: their leadership, their adaptability, their determination, but most of all, how they support and care for one another as teammates and friends.

I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all those who played a role in this special season, beginning with our student-athletes—especially our seniors. In spite of every obstacle in your path over the past four years, you relentlessly pressed forward, driven by the belief in what you could achieve together. You exemplify the very best of our community.

Next, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to our community—our students’ parents, families, classmates, and friends, as well as our faculty, staff, and alumni—for your support of our women’s lacrosse team. Our Orange and Blue pride was on full display throughout this magical run, and having all of you in the team’s corner truly made all the difference. Thank you!

Tenacity defined this team. I’m sure this brought a smile to all those who once wore the uniform themselves and those who worked to keep the team ready to compete. With that, I’m grateful to our women’s lacrosse alumni and athletic trainers for their tremendous support of our student-athletes. I’d also like to thank our athletic communications staff for their stellar coverage of the team throughout the season.

Lastly, I want to thank Head Coach Charlotte Cunningham and her remarkable coaching staff: Katie McAllister, Laura Asher, and Shannon Twill ’23. Charlotte, in your first-ever season as a collegiate head coach, you led your team to the NCAA championship game. This isn’t accidental. It reflects your commitment on and off the field. You give your full self to this team, to this program, and to our College every day. I am so grateful that our students get to learn from you, as they determine the people they want to become. You, indeed, are writing your own inspiring Gettysburg legacy!

Again, please join me in celebrating this truly great Gettysburg team! We are all so proud of you!

With great pride,

Bob Iuliano
President
