Gettysburg College Diversity Statement

Dear members of the campus community,

One of the findings from the campus climate study conducted in 2016 and reinforced last year by the Campus Climate Study Implementation Group (CCSIG) was that some members of our community are uncertain about why diversity and inclusion matter on our campus. Therefore, we thought it was important to develop an institutional statement to help enhance our community’s understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion.

During the summer 2017, President’s Council endorsed a statement, which has now been reviewed and approved by the CCSIG. I write today to let you know that this statement is now posted on the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s web page and on our faculty, staff, and student landing pages. We also plan to incorporate it into various handbooks and other materials on campus.

We are grateful to the CCSIG for their support of this statement, and we encourage you to read the statement today and to review it from time to time.

Sincerely,

Janet Morgan Riggs, President
Jeanne Arnold, Chief Diversity Officer
