Provost Search

April 4, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

As I noted in my message accompanying Chris Zappe’s announcement of his transition from the Provost’s Office, we will be launching a national search for his successor. Dr. Sarah Principato, Thompson Endowed Chair in Environmental Studies and Professor of Environmental Studies, will join me in co-chairing the 13-person search advisory committee. The full list of committee members can be found at the end of this note. I would like to thank the committee for agreeing to serve the College in this important task.

We have retained the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller (www.imsearch.com) to assist in the recruitment of candidates. Over the coming weeks our search consultants, Kate Barry, Karen McPhedran, and Hannah Moore, will be speaking with a wide range of constituencies at Gettysburg, including faculty, staff, administrators and students.

Listening sessions will be held beginning next week (times and Zoom links below) so the committee and consultants can benefit from your perspective on the Gettysburg provost position, how you would expect to interface with the provost, and what you consider to be the key challenges and opportunities the new provost will face.

These discussions will play an important role in the search. Most importantly, information gleaned from these sessions will inform the position profile, a document that will describe the essential characteristics of the College, explain the challenges and opportunities for the next Provost, and outline the desired attributes of successful candidates.

We hope you will be able to participate in the conversation and provide your thoughts and perspectives on the search. If you are not able to join these discussions or prefer to share written feedback, we welcome your input in a survey linked here https://www.research.net/r/M6G33BQ.

Sincerely,

Bob Iuliano
President
