Compensation Update

May 20, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

As I have said in various settings this spring, we have had a remarkable year. New majors, new master’s programs and partnerships, campus renovations, improvements to our students’ social experience, improved rankings, and so much more. One of the many signs of the positive effects of this work—together with the everyday interactions between our faculty and students—is found in the recently completed senior survey: 91% of our senior students reported either being satisfied or very satisfied by their Gettysburg College experience. This is our highest mark since 2015—and it is the byproduct of the great work of every member of this community. My deepest thanks to each and every one of you.

The Board of Trustees, the President’s Council, and I want to recognize the extraordinary commitment of the entire campus over the course of the last year by increasing our compensation pool by 3 percent for benefits-eligible employees hired before April 1—this reflects the largest increase in many years. Compensation adjustments will be effective May 24 for administrators and support staff, while faculty members will see their increase in September.

We know that the headwinds facing higher education have intensified, and we are not immune to those—in fact, even with the excellent work we’ve done as a community, our financial picture will further tighten next year in ways that will require all of our attention. The most effective response to these headwinds will be to continue to steward our resources as wisely as possible; to continue in the spirit of openness and collaboration that helped define this year; and to continue to innovate across all that we do as a necessary means of ensuring a vibrant future for the College.

I am grateful for the enormous contributions of this community and the countless ways you have shown up for our students, for one another, and for Gettysburg. Thank you, once again, for all you do in support of our students and our enduring mission.

With gratitude,

Bob Iuliano
President
