Letter to campus community regarding MLK Day - January 16, 2017

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

These enduring words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. characterize Gettysburg College alumnus and trustee Troy Datcher ’90, keynote speaker for our 37th Annual Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Troy is Vice President of Sales and Sports Marketing at The Clorox Company and helps to lead the company’s African Americans Building Leadership Excellence group.  Troy was also a 2015 Ebony Power 100 honoree.

We are thrilled to welcome Troy to campus for this special event. Rather than holding our campus celebration today on MLK Day, we will host it on Monday, January 23, when students are back on campus and classes are in session so that more members of our campus community can attend.

We encourage all members of the campus community to attend this event as we reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and consider what we each can do to improve our college, our communities, and our world.

Sincerely,

Janet Morgan Riggs ’77                         Jeanne J. Arnold
