Compensation and Summer Updates

April 24, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

As the academic year winds to a close, I’m writing to look ahead—to this summer, to next year’s holiday schedule, and to ways to honor your extraordinary contributions to Gettysburg College. But, first, thank you for all that you’ve done for our students and community this past year. I know it hasn’t always been easy, given this moment of change and transition across higher education and at the College. Please know how deeply grateful I am for your resilience, partnership, and commitment to our shared mission.

Compensation

As I indicated at our most recent employee meeting, the Board of Trustees has approved the budget for the new fiscal year, which includes a 2% increase in the employee compensation pool for benefits-eligible employees hired before April 1, 2024. The adjustment will be reflected in the June 14 pay for administrators and support staff, while faculty members will see their increase in September.

End-of-Year and Summer Information

  • Gettysburg Greatest Awards: On Tuesday, May 7, we will host our spring meeting for administrators and support staff in the CUB Ballroom from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. During this event, we will announce the recipients of our inaugural Gettysburg Greatest Awards—a special celebration designed to honor administrator and support staff colleagues who have gone above and beyond in support of the College over the course of the year.
  • Summer Flex Work Policy: Building upon the success of last year’s pilot program, we are resuming our Summer Flex Work Policy for eligible employees. This initiative allows for the compression of work schedules into a 4- or 4.5-day workweek over the summer, beginning Monday, June 3, and continuing through Friday, August 9. Further details are available on the Human Resources website.
  • Employee Enrichment Day: On Tuesday, June 4, we will host our 5th Annual Employee Enrichment Day. The Human Resources Office, in collaboration with campus partners, has organized a series of dynamic events, culminating in a campus picnic at noon in the CUB Ballroom. Employees are welcome to leave for the day and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon after the picnic. Registration for events will open on Thursday, May 2. Stay tuned for further updates.

Holiday Schedule

Consistent with our approach in recent years, we are expanding time off around Thanksgiving and the winter break. In all, the schedule now includes 15 holidays—an increase of three days from recent years. The full 2024-25 holiday schedule is now available on the HR website.

As we look forward to summer and the year ahead, let me again express my profound appreciation for all that you do. Your efforts are at the heart of our success. Thank you for your continued dedication to Gettysburg College, and for making a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

With gratitude,

Bob
