Sociology Major
Check Sheet
Ten courses are required for the SOC major.
Two Core Courses
- One from SOC 101, 102, or 103 (must earn a C or better to continue in the major)
- SOC 296 (with a grade of C or better, may only be taken once)
Must be taken at Gettysburg College. Students who do not meet the grade requirement may petition the department to repeat the course.
Social Inequality Course
- One from SOC 202, 209, 217, 240, 243, or 244
Must be taken at Gettysburg College
Seminar in Sociological Theory
- SOC 315 or 318
Must be taken at Gettysburg College.
Students may take two seminars on Sociological Theory on different topics and with different course numbers. The first will fulfill the Seminar in Sociological Theory requirement the second will count as a Sociology elective.
Two Methods Courses
- SOC 298
- SOC 299
Both must be taken at Gettysburg College
Three Sociology Electives
- 3 courses from SOC 200-290 and also SOC 331
Capstone
- SOC 400: Capstone Seminar
Must be taken at Gettysburg College
