About us

Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) brings people together to share faith, encourage service and community action, and foster a caring community among students, faculty and staff at Gettysburg College. Marie Hopkins is the Associate Director of Catholic Campus Ministry at Gettysburg College. Father Aaron Lynch (alynch@gettysburg.edu) is also available to provide pastoral care. Our offices are located in the basement of Christ Chapel (corner of Washington and Stevens Streets). Please stop in and visit!

Mass Schedule

Mass is typically celebrated in Christ Chapel on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. when school is in session and on Holy Days Mass begins at 5:15 p.m. Beginning with the Fall 2020 semester, please check the Religious & Spiritual Life master calendar or engageGettysburg or the Newman Association Facebook Page for up to date times and locations for mass. Mass will also be offered virtually through LiveStreaming. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available before or after mass or by appointment. Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction, Stations of the Cross and praying of the Rosary offered throughout the year.

Pastoral Counseling

CCM campus ministers are trained religious professionals who can help you sort through issues in your life. Sometimes all you need is someone to listen. The CCM staff are here to listen whether you are wrestling with tough decisions, discerning news from home or seeking guidance on questions of faith or just need an “ear”. We are here for you!

Ways for You to Be Involved

Liturgical Ministries
Consider volunteering for a liturgical ministry! Extraordinary Ministers distribute Holy Communion at mass. Lectors read the Word of God. Musicians enhance our worship together by playing an instrument or singing. Ushers/Greeters welcome everyone to our gathering. There is a place for everyone and their unique talents and interests!

Choir
The Catholic Mass Choir rehearses one hour each week with our student director and leads the music at Sunday evening mass once a month. All interested students are welcome to participate.

Bible Study
Contact the CCM Office for Bible Study groups and Book Study groups or watch the Newman Association Facebook page or visit the Religious and Spiritual Life Master Calendar.

Retreats
A spiritual retreat through CCM is planned every year. For information on this retreat, please contact the CCM Office or visit the Newman Association Facebook Page. The Diocese of Harrisburg also offers a one-day Lenten retreat for college students and young adults during the spring semester. (Transportation is provided for all interested students.)

Service Trips
CCM offers Service Learning Awards for Catholic students who intend to participate in an immersion trip sponsored by Gettysburg College. The amount of the grant is $100, payable to Gettysburg College, to be applied to the total cost of the trip for which you have been accepted. For more information, contact CCM Office or Center for Public Service.

CCM also sponsors Catholic students for service programs offered by Catholic church-related organizations. To learn more about CCM sponsorship for a program offered through your home parish or diocese, or through the Diocese of Harrisburg, contact the CCM Office.

Ecumenism
There are many opportunities throughout the year to engage in activities with students from different traditions. CCM and Newman Association work closely with the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and the Interfaith Student Council, as well as, with other student religious groups, to sponsor special events and ecumenical services.

Catholic Campus Ministry Can Help You:

  • Grow spiritually – College is a time to identify your values and develop practices that sustain and nurture your beliefs.
  • Develop as an individual – Every student is unique and has experienced a variety of different influences. CCM provides a comfortable space in which you can be yourself and come to terms with your own heritage while you expand your horizons.
  • Put things together – In class you acquire information and skills to learn how to think critically. CCM contributes to your education as a whole person by offering opportunities to reflect on what you learn, clarify your values, and make life choices consistent with those values. It provides a supportive environment for listening to the call of God in your own life.
  • Experience community – You can meet people and make friends through the various programs sponsored by CCM and Newman Association.
