Student Health Agreement Deadline Extended to July 29

Message sent July 24

Julie Ramsey, Vice President for College Life and Dean of Students, notified students that the Student Health Agreement deadline has been extended to July 29, and that additional details about fall opening will be sent on July 27.

Dear Students,

On Tuesday, July 21, Gettysburg College sent an email to students and parents, authored by me, highlighting important information regarding our COVID-19 testing plan, residence hall assignments, student requirements for returning to campus, and our Student Health Agreement. This College communication can be read here.

Regrettably, we experienced a significant technical issue upon delivery of the email due to an upgrade to our institutional database. This resulted in a number of families receiving the email following a lengthy delay or failing to receive the email entirely. We recognize the anxiety and frustration this caused to our students and parents, especially during this time of great uncertainty. We apologize for this error and the College is working hard to address this issue.

Given these circumstances, we have decided to extend the Student Health Agreement deadline to noon on Wednesday, July 29. Please note: submitting the form does not obligate you to return to residence.

In recent weeks, we have also heard from members across the campus community regarding their desire for a clearer picture of all that this unique semester will entail, and how the most fundamental elements of our campus experience will be reimagined given COVID-19 concerns. Please know that every Gettysburg College employee is working diligently, in partnership with our medical experts at Keeling & Associates, on a series of comprehensive plans and protocols to ensure your health and safety upon return to residence. We are grateful for the patience you have shown us as these comprehensive plans have been developed. We are working to address your questions and concerns, and you can expect more decisions and details regarding our fall plans in the days ahead.

Our next institutional message will be sent on Monday, July 27. The email will highlight drop-and-go appointment sign ups, our new COVID-19 education module, Orientation information, and changes being made to dining on campus. As a result of the Student Health Agreement deadline extension, all students will also receive a Move-In date and time on Monday as well, regardless of whether they have submitted the agreement. (With that said, students will not be permitted to check-in, test, or receive their residence hall key if they have not completed the Student Health Agreement before arriving on campus). I would encourage you to continue to monitor the Better Together website and College social media accounts for updates.

In addition, we are working on creating opportunities for our students and parents to engage virtually with the College in the coming weeks to learn more about our fall planning and decisions. In the interim, we encourage you to continue to direct your questions to fallreturn@gettysburg.edu.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We will be in touch soon with more information about our planning.

Sincerely,

Dean Julie Ramsey, Ed.D.
