Jeff Foster, Interim Vice President for College Life and Dean of Students, and Darrien Davenport, Assistant Secretary to the BOT/Assistant Vice President of College Life, update the campus community with the College’s new mask guidelines.

Dear Campus Community:

As many of you know, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new guidance yesterday that fully vaccinated individuals can safely pursue most indoor and outdoor activities without masking or physical distancing. The CDC also emphasized that localities and organizations may choose to continue to require masking and distancing. This allows institutions, such as ours, the opportunity to more fully assess the new guidance before updating their policies.

Beginning Tuesday, May 18, Gettysburg College will no longer require masking outdoors. All individuals on campus, however, will be required to continue masking indoors.

The College remains in active discussions with Keeling & Associates regarding the new CDC guidance to determine the most appropriate next steps for our community. We will communicate any additional changes to our health and safety policies to our employees and summers students as they are reached.

Please note that all of the College’s current health and safety policies will be in effect for our Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 17. If you have questions, please visit www.gettysburg.edu/commencement or emailcommencement@gettysburg.edu.

Certainly, the CDC announcement comes as welcome news for Gettysburg College, especially as we begin to set our sights on the Fall 2021 semester and providing our students with a more traditional learning experience.

Thank you,

Jeff Foster, D.Ed.
Interim Vice President for College Life and Dean of Students

Darrien Davenport, Ed.D.
Assistant Secretary to the BOT/Assistant Vice President of College Life
