Jerrica Giles ’07 interns in Special Collections
This past semester, I had the opportunity to intern in Special Collections in the Musselman Library right here on campus.
Under the guidance of Karen Drickamer, the head archivist, both Adrienne and I were allowed the privilege of cataloging their Civil War Vertical File Manuscript Collection. Through this seemingly boring task, we were able to read letters and diaries written by soldiers while on the front. Some of them were even present for the great battle of Gettysburg! Being able to see first-hand accounts of battles, and read about their innermost feelings, is one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced. In addition, this collection contains letters and other documents from well-known Civil War generals. This includes people such as George Gordon Meade and Lewis A. Armistead. This is definitely an experience I will never forget, and I highly recommend this internship to future Gettysburg Semester students.
