My sociological interests range widely, but almost always include analysis of gender, particularly as it intersects with social class and marital status. Currently, my research and writing focus on sociology of leisure, with an emphasis on gardening, and on sociology of aging, particularly the social experience of retirement. With my own retirement, I have moved away from scholarly writing to pursue public sociology, especially through my garden and retirement blogs.
