Transfer Students

At Gettysburg College, we value the diversity of experiences and breadth of knowledge that transfer students bring to our community.

Gettysburg welcomes applications from students interested in transferring to the College. High school graduates who have enrolled in more than two courses at another college or university should apply as a transfer student. Students who have not graduated from high school, but have taken college course work, are not considered transfer students.

Transfer students applying for the spring semester should submit their application by November 1, and students applying for the fall semester should apply by April 15; transfers applying after those preferred deadline dates should do so as soon as possible.

Transfer students should apply for admission using the transfer application of the Common Application. Requirements include: the final secondary school transcript, official college/university transcript(s), and the College Officials Report. Transfer students who do not wish to have SAT or ACT results considered for admission can choose to apply under the College's Test Optional Policy.

Gettysburg will consider applications for transfer from students who are in good standing at the last institution attended. Students under academic or disciplinary suspension are not encouraged to apply to Gettysburg until eligible for readmission to the suspending institution.

Transfer of credits

Transfer credits are granted provisionally for individual courses passed with a C or better at approved institutions, provided that these courses fit reasonably well into the Gettysburg curriculum. During the first semester, transfer students must review the graduation requirements with their academic advisor or the Registrar. Transfers are required to earn all additional credit at Gettysburg College or through a regular College-approved program of off-campus study. In order to complete the transfer of course credits, half of the degree requirements (16 units) must be completed at Gettysburg College. All transfer students must satisfy the course requirements in their major area of interest.
