About the Donor

Francis L. Arensberg created the fund in 1949 as a memorial to his father, Conrad Christian Arensberg (1840-1924), steel executive and veteran of the Battle of Gettysburg.

More Information

Conrad Arensberg served in Company F of the Pennsylvania Independent Artillery. It's said that Arensberg didn't return to Gettysburg until 50 years after the battle--at which point, he became devoted to both the site and Pennsylvania (later Gettysburg) College.
