Internships can happen during the academic semester or over the summer. These opportunities are a great way to connect what you learn in the classroom to the professional workplace. Registering An Internship

For Credit Internships

To earn academic credit, internship experiences should provide a significant academic component as well as practical value. Students must secure a faculty sponsor who will approve the internship for credit and assign the academic assignment(s) that must be completed by the agreed-upon deadline in order for the student to receive credit.

Students who are not eligible to participate in internships for Gettysburg College credit include those who are:suspended,on leave of absence,withdrawn, below a 2.0 cumulative GPA

Registration and Deadlines

Once you have been offered and have accepted an internship, log in to your Student Center (Campus Experience) and complete the respective paperwork for your chosen experience by the appropriate deadlines prior to starting the internship.

Check your Gettysburg email frequently as this is our main mode of communication with you throughout the internship process.

Spring Deadline

Contracts for spring internships must be submitted no later than the add/drop deadline.

Summer Deadline

Contracts for summer internships must be submitted no later than June 15th.

The following departments have an earlier deadline of April 26th: English, Health Sciences, and Management/Minor in Business. Please check with your department to see if this deadline is different than the aforementioned dates.

What Is The Time Commitment Of A Micro-Internship?

Often micro-internship projects require 5-40 hours of total work across 2-4 weeks and can be completed remotely. They are posted on a rolling basis and can be applied to year-round.

Extern

An externship is a unique opportunity that gives an insider's view into a career field, observe on-the-job activities and participate in hands-on learning experiences in the workplace. Shadow

Offered every January during winter break, job shadowing provides one-day experiences shadowing alumni or parent volunteers in the workplace as they go about their day's work. Have questions? Get your shadowing FAQs answered here.

Remote Project Experiences

Fully remote, skill-enhancing experiences (10, 20, or 40 hours in length) in which alumni or parents identify a project that a student could support under their guidance and career mentorship. This program is designed to offer flexibility and accessibility for both mentors and students during the summer break, while creating a mentored learning experience for students seeking to enhance their career-related skills.

Career Treks

Multi-day intensive career programs designed to explore and learn and about various career field. Typically held in January or May, these programs include: site visits to various companies, meetings with alumni and parents, case study presentations, and networking receptions with alumni, parents and friends of the College.
