Rising high school students attending a Gettysburg College summer camp will experience an immersive learning environment, welcoming atmosphere, and historic yet contemporary campus setting. Each program is led by subject-matter experts – Gettysburg College faculty, staff and students – and subjects for 2023 programs include jazz music, creative writing, civic engagement, 3D printing, and Civil War studies.

Sunderman Jazz Camp with Guest Artist Christian McBride
Tuesday, June 20 – Friday, June 23, 2023
Camp Type: Day camp with residential option
Camp Cost: $795 (day) / $1095 (residential)
Early Bird Rate: $695 (day) / $995 (residential)
Early bird registration available until midnight March 31st. Registration cost increases to standard rates April 1.
Play or sing in a jazz combo, learn about improvisation and jazz theory, and develop your skills as a musician in a welcoming and engaging setting. We will be joined by DownBeat Magazine’s Bassist, Producer, and Jazz Artist of 2022, Christian McBride, for a day of masterclasses and a performance with his quintet in the Majestic Theater. The week will conclude with a showcase of student performances.

Innovation and Creativity Camp
Sunday, June 25 – Friday, June 30, 2023
Camp Type: Residential (overnight)
Camp Cost: $1495*
Through engaging hands-on activities and design thinking challenges students will learn how to use a wide variety of tools including laser cutters, cnc machines, vinyl cutters, virtual reality, sewing machines, and even build a 3D printer to take home! This camp is designed for any skill level with no previous experience needed.
*Cost of this camp is slightly higher than other residential camps due to cost of 3D printer each camper will take home.

American Civil War Camp
Sunday, July 2 – Friday, July 7, 2023
Camp Type: Residential (overnight)
Camp Cost: $1395
Study American Civil War history through lectures, hands-on field trips, and unique learning experiences. Delve into the circumstances leading up to the war, investigate significant battles during the war – including the Battle of Gettysburg – and explore the condition of the United States after the war.

Young Writers Workshop VIRTUAL
Sunday, July 9 – Friday, July 16, 2023
Camp Type: Virtual
Camp Cost: $395
Develop your unique writing voice throughout the virtual camp. Students gain an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen. All sessions taught by actively-publishing Gettysburg College faculty.

Eisenhower Institute Civic Engagement Camp
Sunday, July 16 – Friday, July 21, 2023
Camp Type: Residential (overnight)
Camp Cost: $1395
This program is designed for motivated students with a passion for civic engagement within the American political system. Students will face challenging academic questions and real-world situations.

Camp PSYCH - Cancelled for 2023
Camp Psych is unfortunately cancelled for 2023. The good news is that we will be back in 2024 with our on-campus, in-person Camp Psych program. Planning is already underway! We look forward to working with you then – and to spending an amazing week together learning more about psychological science.

Frequently Asked Questions
Below are common, general camp FAQs to assist in planning for summer 2023. For specific questions and information regarding a particular camp, please contact the camp director of the program(s) in question, as each camp has different scheduling, activities, etc.
- When does 2023 registration close? Each camp registration will remain open until June 1, 2023, or until the program is filled.
- What is included in the camp registration fee? The registration fee covers hard costs such as administrative and staffing expenses, meals in dining hall, lodging, etc., where applicable, i.e., virtual camps have different expenses than residential (overnight) camps.
- Are scholarships or financial aid available to cover registration costs? Scholarship/aid offerings vary by camp. Please contact the camp director(s) for specific information and available opportunities.
- COVID-19 Update. All current Gettysburg College COVID-19 Guidelines must be followed during the time of your actual event. Please see the College’s COVID-19 response page for additional information, or contact the camp director with any questions.
