COVID-19 Campus Update

Message sent on November 3, 2021

Anne Ehrlich and Jen Lucas share information regarding the overnight visitor policy change and the indoor masking policy for the remainder of the fall semester.

Dear Members of the Gettysburg College Community,

We write to share with you a change to the College’s overnight visitor policy and to outline our indoor masking expectations for the remainder of the fall semester.

Overnight Visitor Policy Change

Beginning Thursday, November 4, visitors and guests who are not affiliated with Gettysburg College (e.g. friends from other colleges) will now be permitted to stay overnight in our residence halls. We are pleased to be in a position to lift this restriction, thanks to our consistently low campus transmission rates and our Level 1 baseline status.

Remainder of Fall Semester

The College fully anticipates it will keep its current indoor masking policy in place for the remainder of the fall semester. Although our campus community’s transmission rates remain low, as noted, there are other considerations we must weigh in our decision making for November and December. These factors include the significant transmission rates in Adams County and the risks posed to our community’s most vulnerable, such as children who cannot yet be vaccinated. As vaccines for children become available, we remain optimistic about a spring semester with fewer necessary mitigation strategies.

Please note that if conditions warrant additional health and safety measures in the weeks ahead, the College will respond accordingly.

Sincerely,

Anne Ehrlich
Vice President of College Life

Jen Lucas
Executive Director of Human Resources
