Film and Cultural Identity
Description:This major is a cross-cultural study of film. While film is often misconstrued as nothing more than a means of escapism or simple entertainment, the major explores how film also allows us to define who we are, both as individuals and as groups, and within the confines of our own reality. It approaches film as a powerful influence in today's society, both domestic and global, interpreting what we perceive and how we perceive it. Finally, film enables the filmmaker to define himself/herself as a person, and also allows her/him to access a greater common self in the form of a cultural identity.
