Chamber Music

Sunderman Strings

Chamber music provides a powerful integration of individual musical development and collaboration. At the Sunderman Conservatory, the opportunity for chamber music performance is a hallmark.

  • The Conservatory houses a resident faculty ensemble, the Sunderman Wind Quintet, offering frequent performances both on and off campus.
  • Students in the Bachelor of Music degree program perform chamber music each semester they are in residence. All other music majors are encouraged to participate in a chamber music ensemble whenever possible.

A Broad Array of Chamber Ensembles

Standard student chamber ensembles include:

  • Brass and woodwind quintet
  • String quartet
  • Saxophone quartet
  • Piano trio
  • Cello and flute choir

There are also mixed chamber ensembles that comprise a varied combination of instruments and voice in the broad spectrum of the chamber music repertoire.

Student chamber groups have recently performed for receptions at Carnegie Hall and the Newseum in Washington, DC. as well as at many other formal events on and off campus.

Ensembles are coached by faculty members, yet provide excellent opportunities for creative student leadership.
