Waiting List FAQs

Selecting the students to whom we will offer admission to Gettysburg College is never a simple task. This was another difficult year for the admissions selection process, as the size and strength of our applicant pool remained very strong. While we wish we could admit every applicant, this year's class contains only a limited number of spaces, and we extend this waiting list offer as an indication of our continued interest in you. The frequently asked questions and answers below are intended to lessen some of the uncertainty that comes with a waiting list offer. If you have additional questions, please give us a call! We are happy to speak with you. You can reach our office at 800-431-0803 from 9 a.m.-5p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturdays in April.

Why does Gettysburg College have a waiting list?
A waiting list allows Gettysburg College the flexibility to offer talented and successful applicants who we were unable to admit during regular decision another opportunity to be offered admission. If there remain openings in the first-year class, we will offer admission to candidates from the waiting list on a rolling basis.
How do I receive continued consideration as a waiting list candidate at Gettysburg?
Please complete the waiting list form through your applicant status portal as soon as possible. Only those students who have returned the form will be considered as active waiting list candidates. We also welcome you to write and update us of any achievements, academic information, or personal developments that have occurred since your original application was filed. We are delighted to hear of your continued interest in Gettysburg College!
What can I expect next?
Upon receipt of your waiting list interest form, we will send you an email confirming your active status on our waiting list. If your contact information changes at any point, please provide us with an email address we can use to reach you.
How will I know if I have been admitted from the waiting list?
All offers of admission to students from the waiting list will be made through the applicant status portal and you will receive an email notice to alert you. We will maintain a summer waiting list through July.
How large is the waiting list?
The number of students on the waiting list varies from year to year. Several factors influence the size of the waiting list, including the size and composition of the applicant pool, the target size of our first-year class, and the number of students who choose to be considered as active waiting list candidates.
Is the waiting list ranked?
We do not rank candidates on the waiting list. If we find that we are able to make additional offers of admission to candidates from the waiting list, we will review the entire list of active waiting list candidates and make offers to the students whose academic credentials are the strongest at that point in time.
If I decide to attend another college and no longer wish to receive consideration for admission to Gettysburg, what should I do?
We would appreciate you sharing this information with us, as it allows us to maintain an accurate record of active waiting list candidates. Simply send a brief email (admiss@gettysburg.edu) at any point during the spring or summer to update us on your decision.
