Collection Development

Special Collections and College Archives includes manuscripts, artifacts, rare books, ephemera, maps, artwork, College history materials, and more. Selection is at the discretion of the Director of Special Collections and College Archives and based on relevance to Gettysburg College history, the curriculum, and focused collection areas. If you would like to donate books, collections (including personal papers), or suggest purchases, contact Carolyn Sautter, Director of Special Collections and College Archives.

To the extent we are able, Special Collections will purchase publications of individual faculty and administrators; publications by graduates and students will be retained if purchased and donated by the author. All publications of the College will be preserved as official records as part of the College Archives. Published and unpublished items in various media related to the history and description of the College will be collected as they become available. These may include books, newspaper and journal articles, photographs, letters, selectively acquired artistic works, audio or videotapes, and typescripts of selected lectures.

We welcome publications and personal papers of college alumni and faculty, in addition to material relating to the College's history. Inquiries may be sent to Amy Lucadamo, College Archivist.

Materials about the American Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the history of Gettysburg and the surrounding area may be selected for inclusion in Special Collections at the discretion of the Director of Special Collections and College Archives.
