Budapest Semester in Mathematics website
Advisor/Important notes:
- Hybrid/Group Programs offer students the ability to learn alongside other global study students from US institutions at international study centers. Some hybrid/group programs allow students to enroll in a couple of courses at local universities, but a majority of these programs are taught by local faculty and professionals through an affiliated study abroad provider at their program’s academic center. These programs frequently offer courses that relate to the program location including language and culture classes, and they tend to focus less on STEM courses. On a vast majority of hybrid/group programs, students live with host families/homestays, providing them a great connection to the local culture.
- Offers very advanced courses in mathematics, often covering material beyond what is offered at Gettysburg. Students attending this program should be far ahead in the Math major and very strong students.
- Students take predominately all math courses, with a few opportunities for electives so students are expected to be highly motivated to study mathematics, as well as have completed one semester of Real Analysis or Abstract Algebra by the start of the progam.
- Students at this program take courses in the same academic building as our other affiliated program in Budapest that is run through McDaniel College.
- Students are housed together in BSM approved furnished apartments near the historic city center.
- Budapest is an easy city to navigate and has excellent and inexpensive public transportation.

Program Highlights:
- BSM classes are held at the College International, a Hungarian-based educational institution. Classes are taught in English by eminent Hungarian scholars, most of whom have had teaching experience in North American universities. In keeping with Hungarian tradition, teachers closely monitor each individual student’s progress. Considerable time is devoted to problem solving and encouraging student creativity. Emphasis is on depth of understanding rather than on the quantity of material.
- Hungary is a small country, about the size of Indiana. A member of the European Union, Hungary developed its distinctive culture over a thousand-year history, blending influences from the East and West. Budapest, the capital, has a population of around two million people. It is a beautiful European city with a scenic combination of natural and architectural beauty on the banks of the Duna (Danube) River. Budapest is famous for its graceful bridges, green parks, vibrant culture, and delicious food.
